Chea, What To Do With an Alpha Male in Relationships

Company Logo
Hi Chea,

Do you have anyone in your life close to you that you consider an "alpha male?"

Your dad, brother, boyfriend, husband, boss, best friend, best friend's husband, etc.?

I'm guessing that's a yes. I definitely know some.

And yes, I definitely identify as one.

I have often wondered, as I learn from each relationship I'm in over the years, what the best way to interact with and support these kinds of men is when it comes to romantic relationships.

The more I learn about emotional intelligence, the more I realize that the space for super masculinity has been decreasing in our society for a while - but alpha males are still everywhere.

So as one, who has struggled to communicate with several past girlfriends about how to best support me and empower me to be my best, I wanted to get some insight from the wife of a huge alpha male, my guest from last week's podcast Laird Hamilton.

After I interviewed Laird at his house, I had the privilege of sitting down with his wife Gabrielle Reece as well.

Gabby is a force of strength, athleticism, and wisdom herself. One of the best sand volleyball players in the world, not to mention model, fitness trainer, and mother, Gabby is an incredible example of a woman who has played to her strengths and created extraordinary results.

So I asked her, "Being married to an alpha male (Laird), what does it take from you to create a successful relationship?"

Because the truth is, I really really want to know.

Gabby poured out some solid feedback on this topic and I ate it up.

In fact, what she acknowledged about the gap in our society regarding the place for alpha males to step up and be themselves really hit home.

One of the things she pointed out was this: to support her husband, she knows she can't take away his power and she can't be his mother. What she can be is respectful, tender, feminine, and trusting.

There is so much more to what Gabby and I talked about (including her story of how she got into pro volleyball after modeling in college and how that shaped her career) and you can watch the full Episode 215 HERE.

Since I'm fascinated by this topic, I'd love to hear your feedback: what have you found that works when in relationship with alpha males? Or what doesn't? It's worth talking about, so hit me up on social or reply to this email.

Thanks for being the best audience ever,
