Anyway, back to the point of this email...
A few years ago, Forbes approached me about writing a column for them. I was already booked solid, so I politely turned them down, but I still couldn’t help feeling flattered that they offered.
Earlier in my career, I would’ve killed for a gig like that. I also would’ve been shocked to find out exactly what it takes to get offered one.
For instance, you would think it’s about being a great writer, right? Or having impeccable credentials?
But it’s not.
Sure, those things still matter, but not nearly as much as they used to.
Nowadays, it’s all about traffic.
You see, advertisers pay big magazines and newspapers based on the number of people who see their ads. The more “page views” a publisher receives, the more money they make.
So, guess what magazines and newspapers do?
They hunt for writers who are good at getting traffic. The better you are at writing articles that go viral and get a ton of page views, the more big magazines and newspapers want you.
In my case, Forbes approached me after one of my articles went viral and got over 1 million visitors.
It feels strange to say that, by the way. I always wanted to touch a lot of people with my work, but I never figured just one article would reach more than a million people.
But it happened.
And afterward, EVERYONE wanted me to write for them. I got offers for book deals, paid columnist positions, and hundreds of high-paying freelance writing gigs.
Why?
Because everyone needs traffic, and I knew how to get it.
Still do. Fast forward a few years, and my work has now reached over 200 million people total. Still hard to wrap my mind around that sometimes.
And it all started with that one article.
In fact, if you ask around, most top writers have a similar story. They labored in obscurity for a while, but then something they wrote took off and made them famous.
There’s only one problem…
Nobody shares how they did it.
Let’s say you’re a beginning writer. You have talent, you’re willing to work hard, and you genuinely respect the craft.
How can YOU write an article that goes viral, turning you into a writer everyone wants to publish?
Nobody tells you. Like it’s some big secret or something.
But that’s silly. If more talented writers knew how to get the traffic they deserve, the whole world would be better off.
So, I’ve decided to do something about it.
For the first time, I’ve releasing a case study of how I wrote and promoted the article that got over 1 million visitors. I’ll send it to you in pieces over the next few days.
It won’t cost you a dime, either. I could easily charge for it, but I’ve decided to release the entire case study for free.
