When you read these two labels...

  • Coach
  • Consultant

Who do you think charges more money?

I remember while in university hearing about 'high paid consultants' who would get hundreds of thousands of dollars for spending a few months working within a big company.

Then on the flipside, my mother worked at a life coaching institute, where the coaches often talked about hourly rates around the $50 to $100 level maximum.

I never really understood back then what consultants did that could be worth so much more.

Later in life as I began to study things like positioning, I came to realize that how much you charge comes down to just a few simple things...

  1. How YOU decide to position yourself (this is entirely your choice!)
  2. What type of client you decide to work with (again, YOU decide)
  3. What kind of value your clients receive
  4. How you package up what you sell

I discovered that the words 'coach' or 'consultant' really didn't mean that much, it was all about how a person presented themselves to the world.

Plus I also learned something very powerful...

You can charge whatever you want to.

Now that I have worked with so many people I've come to the very clear realization that when it comes to coaching, price is a reflection of one thing more than anything else...

The self esteem of the coach.

If the person is confident, believes in the value of what they offer, then as a coach or consultant they charge thousands of dollars for their time.

If on the other hand they are not confident, don't believe in themselves and have a lot of doubt around whether anyone would ever pay them money, they price accordingly -- usually under $100 an hour.

The amazing thing is often people who charge such low hourly rates are very talented, caring individuals who genuinely help people, yet even as they get clients and receive positive feedback, they still can not justify charging much money.

It's like they are afraid of getting well paid for what they do.

Now of course at the beginning you discount your rates for your first few clients, but that doesn't mean you undervalue what you offer.

Price Is Your Gateway To Financial Freedom

There is nothing that impacts your earning potential more than how much you decide to charge for what you sell.

The good news is deciding how much to charge is entirely up to you.

However as you may be thinking, simply deciding to charge more money doesn't mean suddenly people are willing to pay it.

This is why I'm excited to be hosting a live training with Jessica Nazarali on Wednesday.

They know how to package up the value they offer into coaching packages they charge thousands of dollars for.

As a simple example of how the numbers can work, imagine you sell a $3,000 private coaching program that goes for three months, but you only offer it to 10 people.

That means you earn $30,000 for three months coaching, plus you only work with a small group of people uniquely suited to what you offer.

This is why coaching can be so amazing.

You can get paid well for forming deeply satisfying relationships with just a small handful of people who get tremendous outcomes from their time with you.

To make this work though, you need to figure out a few important things like...

  • Where to find the ideal clients for you
  • How to package up and position your coaching offers to justify the thousand dollar prices
