Minterest: “As Seen On” And The Blogosphere | |
| “As Seen On” And The Blogosphere Posted: 07 Jun 2016 05:42 AM PDT Have you ever noticed the "As Seen On" label on many (or at least a few) 'popular' blogs by pro-bloggers, agencies, or startups? Or, do you know how easy it is to get featured on some of the most prestigious websites on the web? Well I have realized that it’s a lot more easier to get featured on Forbes, Entrepreneur, Inc., Huffington Post, etc. than writing and publishing a blog post on my own blog. You know how? That’s right — it’s mostly “paid”. It takes several hours to compose and publish a blog post on my blog but it appears like it takes just few hundred dollars (or sometimes less than $100 if we deliver the content) to get featured on some of the most popular websites on the web. When you visit any of those blogs with an “As Seen On” label, they will make you believe that they got featured on Forbes, Entrepreneur, HuffPost, Yahoo Finance, Inc., etc. but there’s a good chance that it’s “paid”. Also, it appears like some of them even redefined the term “As Seen On”. Because when you see the label “AS SEEN ON — Forbes, Inc, or Entrepreneur” on a blog, you’d expect its author was interviewed by those ezines, right? I know that’s what it supposed to mean. But today, a good percentage of the (beginner or pro) bloggers show off this label just because there’s a linkback (organic or paid, we never know!) from those ezines. And you still don’t believe me, huh? Okay, let me show you some emails that I have received over the past few months in which a few freelance bloggers were trying to sell me links on BuzzFeed, Forbes, Inc., Lifehack, HuffPost, etc. See, it's that easy to get into some of the most prestigious websites and blogs on that web. It’s like — you name it, they have it. Or, you think they’re fake? They’re not! Otherwise, ask yourself how the quality of content published by those websites has degraded over the past few years. In fact, Forbes (and many others), was already penalized by Google, back in 2011, for selling links. That said, it’s very likely that the above emails are not sent by the actual “authors” of the above websites. It could be resellers, marketing agencies, ghost writers, etc. as most of the emails were random/bulk in nature and was not personalized at all. Related Reading
Bottom Line
Watch out: what you are publishing, who you are linking to, who is contributing to your blog and what they are writing, etc. and stand out from the crowd. Happy Blogging! :) You Might Also Like
