How To Avoid Gmails "Black Hole" Promotions Tab

When was the last time you checked your Gmail Promotions Tab in your email inbox?

Today I wanted to share with you the most important thing I do to achieve higher email open rates every time... and this secret is how I dodge Gmail Promotions "black hole" Inbox.

Just to be clear I am not talking about the spam folder, I am talking about the "Promotions Tab"  in your Google email inbox, to the right of the Primary Account.

As a consumer, I love how Google automatically filters my personal emails to avoid newsletter or things I may not want, but as a marketer I HATE how this negatively affects my open rates. I even begged Google to stop sticking me in with the rest of marketers who do not provide any value but had no luck.

This means that even if you are one of the few not using Gmail, your clients probably are so you will want to follow these important steps:

1. Abandon your fancy email template and never attach your logo. Send plain text emails only like this one.

2. Avoid saying the spammy sounding 4 letter word. I am not talking about the swear word, I mean the F-word **ee aka we will not charge you a thing word. Google filters this right away.

3. Keep your email short and include very few links.  Remember you want it to seem like a real conversational instead of a promotional advertisement.

4. Mention your reader's name (if you have it) and avoid any fancy symbols or formatting.

5. Use a reputable email marketing company. I use Drip for this business, but for all new accounts, I only use AWeber because of their deliverability, features, and price. Unlike Infusionsoft they have harsh rules for spam and encourage double opt-ins which I think makes a big difference in avoiding filters.

These 5 tips may seem like normal best practices but are actually "must do's". Apply them immediately in your next broadcast to ensure your message reaches as many of your subscribers as possible.

I hope this helps!!

PS. I highly suggest split testing this for yourself with Aweber and their non-paid trial. Make sure to let us know how well this tip worked for you #monetizepros
